When People Talk Trash

Ask Confused Girl “When People Talk Trash”

“Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.”
– Eleanor Roosevelt

Katie from LA wrote me a message about a Co- worker who said some pretty nasty things about her to a business associate. Like Katie, we all have had people say mean things about us. We have also probably been guilty of speaking badly about others as well. My experience has shown me that how you talk and treat others is a direct reflection of how you feel about yourself. If you are talking badly about someone else, it’s probably because you yourself are feeling insecure.

I think this is important to remember when you hear something negative someone said about you. Instead of taking it personally (I know that is really hard not to do because it feels very personal) just remember that it actually has nothing to do with you and everything to do with the way they feel about themselves. Secure happy people don’t need to put down others to make themselves feel better. If you can muster up the strength, try to show kindness and compassion. I know it’s hard but if you do, you will always come out the winner 🙂

Make sure you take a look at the Confused Girl Activewear I designed with you guys in mind! Our item of the week is one of my favorites which I wear all the time – the Abundant Capri leggings! These leggings feature a gorgeous Malachite crystal, and the cropped length makes them so versatile and easy to wear!

The Perks Of Being Sick

The Perks Of Being Sick

“How being sick taught me acceptance”

The last couple of weeks have been so crazy with so much to do. I feel like there is not enough time in the day to complete everything. Of course, I get sick when things start to get busy in my life. Why couldn’t this happen when nothing was going on? I was so annoyed and frustrated. The first day I tried to act like I wasn’t sick. I worked, ran errands and went to the gym. Well that didn’t work out so well because I go even more sick and felt even more frustrated. At this point, I realized I need to just accept what is. I don’t feel well and that’s okay. I can’t do anything about it so I just need to accept it. In life we have such a hard time with acceptance. We are constantly trying to fight a situation or resist it. What if we just said, “Yeah, this is shitty but I can’t do anything about it so I accept this situation for what it is.”

Acceptance is really difficult for me. My “little self” thinks it can solve anything and force anything to be the way I want it to be but this isn’t true. Through acceptance we find peace and the thoughtful actions we need to make best of a situation. I understand having a cold is not that big of a deal but whether it is a serious situation or a not so serious situation, I think acceptance can be practiced.

When I did just embrace being sick, I was able to enjoy it. I allowed myself to rest, watch TV and eat whatever I wanted. Instead of making myself work, I made myself rest. So far, those were the best days of 2014.

Hopefully my little experience can be of use to someone who has a hard time accepting unwanted situations. Remember, whatever resists persists and whatever you fight, strengthens.

Take a look at my line of Confused Girl Activewear! Whether you’re sick in bed like I was or out and about being the boss I know you are, try doing it in my adorable Peace Leggings! These were inspired by pink marble, which is the color of universal love and marble has been known for enhancing the power of serenity!

Disasters in Paradise

Disasters in Paradise

Shit Happens! Especially when on vacation!

I decided to do something different this year. Instead of going home and doing the same old Christmas, I went to Colorado with a friend of mine. Her family has a beautiful home in Denver and a condo in Keystone. So we decided to do a night in Denver then go to the mountains for a couple days.

When I got to LAX airport, I was in good spirits, excited about my trip. After waiting an hour at my gate, they announced someone on the previous flight had flushed something nondisposable down the toilet. Now, because of some Holiday Hoodlum our flight was delayed for 3 hours. However, I refused to let this get me down. I had a plan to get some much needed sleep on the flight. I guess God had another plan because there was a baby sitting in-front of me that decided to scream its little head off the entire flight. I love babies but there really needs to be something done about screaming kids on flights. Sound proof baby rooms????

It’s times like these that everyone needs to know how to get to their happy little place in their head. I found mine and stayed their until landing. The next day I started to feel sick and my friend had to take me to Urgent Care. Yeah, Christmas day in Urgent Care. Surprisingly there wasn’t anybody in there so I got my antibiotics and was out in a jiffy. See…there’s always something to be grateful for 🙂

With drugs in hand, we decided to continue our trip to the mountains. I ended up having one of the best days ever. We were laughing the entire way and ended up tubing down the mountain for hours. That evening we went to a local pub and kicked it with a bunch of rustic ski bums. So random and ridiculous.

What I learned is that disasters actually add character to your experiences. The disaster itself is just an illusion. It’s your reaction to the disaster that  counts. In my case, it was little annoyances but I could have let them get to me. Instead, I decided to laugh it off and move forward. It’s okay if things don’t go exactly as planned. Embrace it! They always make for better stories anyway.

Looking for something comfy to wear the next time you have to fly? Take a look at my line of Confused Girl Activewear! I never get on a plane without a pair of leggings, and these Hope Leggings with the fold-over waist are some of my very favorites!

What I Learned From a First Date

“What I Learned From a First Date”

Dating can be really annoying or really interesting. I guess it all depends on your expectations and who you are going out with. Whether it be a date or hanging with friends, I like to be around people that can see life a little differently. That way, I have a chance to actually learn something.

I went out with a very kind artist. We decided to go ice skating. If you saw my video, you know he had a hole in his sock. I’m not going to lie, it’s not the most attractive thing when  a guy’s big toe is popping out of his sock. It also isn’t a deal breaker.

The funny thing was, he didn’t immediately put on his boot. He really didn’t care that he had a hole in his sock and sure as hell didn’t care if I saw it. At first, I was trying to avoid looking at it and he could totally tell I was being awkward. I guess, I don’t have much of a poker face. Then he said, “Giovanna, I have a hole in my sock, get over it.”
I started laughing hysterically, it was so funny. After that, I could care less about the hole in his sock. It actually became charming and endearing.

I learned a great lesson from him about “owning your shit.” We all have been in situations were we felt a little out of place or uncomfortable. Instead of concentrating on that, what if we just owned what we had going on? Even if it is ridiculous. Being comfortable in your skin has the power to change perception. I would like to thank and dedicate this video to my friend, the artist with the hole in his sock!

Horrible Jobs & Yachts

Horrible Jobs & Yachts

This week was a mixed bag of negative and positive events. I found out that I got a job…yay! It’s a good position at FOX Studios. Not exactly what I want to do but a good start. I thought, “this is a positive start to my week”!

As I explained in my video, my purse was stolen on the 4th of July which put a damper on the day. Even though it was only a purse, it felt like such a violation. Without realizing it, the next day I was in a bit of a panic. I had my locks changed on my door because my house keys where in my purse. My mind was consumed with fearful thoughts. That is when I realized I needed to reground myself. I was disconnected and all over the place. I needed to center myself again. So the next day, I decided to have a total “ME” day. I went for a nice walk on the beach, drank a glass of wine while I made my favorite pasta dish, read a book and made myself concentrate on things I was grateful for. Even if the feeling isn’t there initially, it will come if your thoughts are focused. As I started to feel better, I got a facebook message from a producer of a San Diego TV show. They want to have me on the show as a guest. My entire body filled with excitement. So random and fun. I thought maybe “my not leading to something things, are finally leading to something”?

Later that day, I received another facebook message from a person I had never met before. Someone put my purse on his porch and he got my name from my drivers license. I was so thrilled! I went to his house and picked it up. Everything was in it except the $15. Someone had grabbed the money and then threw it on the street. The guy told me it went to 5 different people before it got to his house. I was shocked to discover that nobody had stolen my Ray-Ban sunglasses. They were in the purse! Humans aren’t as bad as I thought!

Yes, this experience was a huge inconvenience. I wasted 3 hours at the DMV getting a new license and spent a lot of money changing my locks but sometimes SHIT happens. Its all about how we react to a situation and turn things around!
